NOVEMBER MEETING

We were busy finishing off items for our Christmas Tree.  It will be in the festival at St John's Church Knaresborough from 1 to 9 December which will be open each day.  We made arrangements to visit Salts Mill at Saltaire at the beginning of December as we are not having a meeting next month. 2019 January will be our AGM during the meeting, it will be a full day from 10 until 4.30.  We are having a 'Fuddle' or faith lunch when members will bring along a plate of food.  Those of us with birthdays between January and June will bring savory items and those from July to December will bring sweet items. There will be places to fill on the committee, Richard announced that he wishes to step down from being our Chair and therefore asked for members to consider taking on the position which is not onerous, Catherine is happy to continue as treasurer and Sue to continue to organise events etc  (secretary) Elsie will continue as a member until she moves to Hull when her house is sold

BILTON COMMUNITY CENTRE HARROGATE Our first meeting at this new venue only half day today and for our July meeting, we begin full day meetings from September. Everyone brought along fabric, threads, ribbons and beads to make up inspiration packs for our exhibition on Saturday 11 August in Knaresborough during the FEVA festival.  Catherine and I work with these donated items making up 15 assorted bags during the afternoon.  Thank you to everyone who brought along their canvas squares which were placed against a mount board, we will decide next month how we will fix them together, when hopefully there will more canvases. Everyone liked our new venue, with chairs and tables set up for us by the caretaker, and not to be put up or taken down by our group.  There is a boiler in the kitchen with constant boiling water and and excellent supply of mugs and cutlery.  The hall is bright and airy and we can use the garden at the rear of the building on sunny days as there are picnic tables with se

MAY MEETING

This was our last meeting at Gracious Street Methodist Church Hall when we had a day with Catherine Chew consulting with work on Calico Gardens.  Most members were involved in this workshop when we were shown how to add padding and depth to our work by Catherine, using cardboard, felt and old tights(washed of course). We also looked at new stitched which we had not used before Spanish knotted stitch being one of them. We all had a spare hoop to practice our new stitches before adding to our gardens. Trial stitches. After a few weeks work, not completed yet, hope to do so by the exhibition. Our next meeting will be at Bilton Community Centre in Harrogate on 9 June from 1 until 4.30.  See you there.

We had a wonderful afternoon meeting today, everyone brought along items they were working at present. There was a variety of embroidery techniques being carried out , a felt mouse being made, discussions around next month when we will all work together to make a joint item to be exhibited at FEVA in August.  Linda has bought small square canvases for members to decorate with stitch, paint, beads, fabric, whatever you feel happy to use. A request for ideas to decorate our Christmas tree at the end of the year at the Tree Festival was made to members, in previous years we have had cats, Angels, in the first year we decorated with a mixture of items.  We need something unique to set our tree apart. 2017  tree in situ at the church.
